Inauguration of Hermitage Bypass

Hermitage Bypass inaugurated to ease traffic flow and enhance safety of road users. The Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness inaugurated on Friday 30 May 2025 the Hermitage Bypass. This new road infrastructure aims to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and enhance road safety in the region.

The new road, spanning over 2,2 km, comprises a 1,5 km bypass stretch connecting Aurea Morcellement to the existing Cote D’or Road (B48) near Belle Rive. The project also includes the upgrading of approximately 500 metres of the B48 road, extending to the Belle Rive Roundabout on the B6 Road.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Junior Minister of Local Government, Mr Mohammad Fawzi Allymun; Members of the National Assembly; the General manager of the RDA, Mr Nazeer Mowlabaccus; and other personalities.

In a statement Minister Gunness recalled that the Cote D’Or Road (B48), connecting the regions of Belle Rive, Hermitage and Motorway M3 and passing through highly built-up residential areas, was characterised by poor geometrical alignments, narrow roads, limited visibility and several sharp bends. These conditions, posed serious road safety concerns. In a bid to address these issues, the Ministry launched the Hermitage Bypass Project.

The new bypass, he highlighted will provide an alternative safer and more efficient route for motorists travelling from the South and between Belle Rive and Motorway M3 at Cote D’Or and vice versa and is expected to significantly ease congestion and improve overall traffic flow in the region.
