An inauguration ceremony for the La Vigie Flyover was held on 21 May 2025, attended by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr. Govindranath Gunness; the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Christian Harold Richard Duval; the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr. John Michaël Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen; and other distinguished personalities.
During his address, Minister Gunness expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion, emphasizing that the new flyover will eliminate the need for road users to detour via the La Vigie roundabout and Midlands flyover to access southbound routes or reach the La Vigie–Marie Link Road (A23) from the North. The flyover will be opened to traffic on 22 May 2025 at 9:30 a.m.
Looking ahead, Minister Gunness highlighted that the La Vigie Flyover is envisioned as a future connection to the Eastern region. The proposed extension will run through Dubreuil and Melrose, with potential connectivity to St Julien D’Hotman via Bel Etang. This aligns with the broader vision of developing a modern, safe, and efficient road network aimed at enhancing the mobility of both goods and people.
The project, costing approximately Rs 270 million, included the construction of the flyover bridge, slip lanes, a cycle lane, and necessary drainage infrastructure.
