Site Visits for Upgrading of Mont Ida Branch Road and La Laura to Caroline Road

The aim of the site visit was to have an overlook on Road projects in view of enhancing connectivity between North and East regions.

During site visits at Mont Ida Branch Road and along B28 Caroline Road to assess ongoing road improvement works, The Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness accompanied by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul; Members of Parliament; and the General Manager of the Road Development Authority (RDA), Mr Nazeer Mowlabaccus., announced the following:

“Government is set to embark on a major road development project aiming at connecting the North and East regions of the island, from Forbach to Bel Air. The project is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity and improve the quality of life of residents”.

Minister Gunness reiterated Government’s commitment to provide the citizens with reliable and safe road infrastructure. He emphasised that road development projects are crucial for improving mobility as well as safeguarding the well-being of road users.

At Mont Ida, the Minister noted that the existing road has been widened to six metres and is expected to be broadened to seven metres in accordance with recommended RDA’s standards. He explained that the narrow road allowed only one vehicle to pass at a time, which was an inconvenience to the inhabitants, and that the ongoing upgrade will considerably enhance safety and ease of travel for local residents.

Regarding the B28 Caroline Road, Mr Gunness pointed out that the road has been identified as accident-prone, with several serious incidents reported in recent years. As part of the upgrade, 0.6 kilometre of the road was milled and resurfaced to improve its condition and ensure smoother and safer mobility.

He also underlined future road development projects, which aim at mitigating flood risks and address poor road conditions in Bramsthan.

Minister Ramtohul also seized the opportunity to reiterate Government’s commitment to modernising national road infrastructure and prioritising the safety and security of all road users across the island.
