The B174 Notre Dame de Lorette Road is officially reopened to traffic as from 15 00 hrs on 23 April 2025. An inauguration ceremony was held the same day by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Mr Christian Harold Richard Duval, and the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr John Michaël Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen.
In his statement, Minister Gunness highlighted that the prolonged closure of Notre-Dame de Lorette Road, which had remained unresolved for years, caused severe inconvenience to both residents and commuters. He stated that shortly after assuming office, he carried out a joint site visit to initiate swift action for the road repair. Construction began in December 2024 and the project was completed well ahead of the original 15 May 2025 deadline. The Minister commended the Road Development Authority and the engineering team for their dedication and efficiency.
Minister Gunness expressed the reopening of the road users will henceforth benefit from a safer more accessible and reliable route for the daily commuting.
The repair of Notre-Dame de Lorette Road repair project was initiated after the road collapsed due to the presence of a natural cave underneath. The project was awarded to General Construction Co. Ltd on 6th December 2024 for a total contract value of Rs 5.8 million, funded by the Road Development Authority. The scope of the works involved excavation of the road to address the cave issue, installation of drainage systems, reinforcement of the road structure, and resurfacing over the collapsed section.
