Opening Ceremony for Chamarel B103 Road

The B103 Plaine Champagne Road specifically between Rhumerie and Varangue sur Morne Restaurant is officially reopened to traffic as from 13 00 hrs on 20 February 2025. An inauguration ceremony was held the same day in presence of the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, Members of the National Assembly and other personalities. 

In a statement Minister Gunness expressed satisfaction with regard to the completion of the roadworks indicating that road users will henceforth benefit form a safer and more reliable route. Government, he said, had undertaken stabilisation works on the road following signs of distress and edge failures. The initiative, he pointed out, aims to enhance safety for commuters and ensure a more secure road network.

The project to the tune of some Rs 292 million involved stabilising a 1kilometre stretch of the road. The newly upgraded infrastructure includes a 10-metre-wide roadway, featuring a 7-metre-wide carriageway, drainage systems, and 1.5 metre paved shoulders to ensure safe vehicle movement. The improvements are expected to facilitate safer travel for both residents and tourists visiting the scenic region.
