The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Govindranath Gunness, officially inaugurated Phase 2 of the La Vigie – La Brasserie – Beaux Songes Link Road Project on Thursday, 30 October 2025, at La Marie.
The road was subsequently opened to road users on Friday, 31 October 2025, as from 10:30 hrs.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun; the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Mahendra Gondeea; the Junior Minister of Local Government, Mr Fawzi Allymun; the Government Chief Whip, Mrs Stephanie Anquetil; and other distinguished guests and personalities.
A Milestone in Road Connectivity
In his keynote address, Minister Gunness underscored the strategic importance of Phase 2 of the La Vigie – La Brasserie – Beaux Songes Link Road project, highlighting its vital role in easing traffic congestion and improving accessibility from the southern regions of the island towards Beaux Songes and neighbouring localities.
Implemented under the supervision of the Road Development Authority (RDA), this major infrastructure project forms part of the Government’s broader vision to modernise the national road network and promote safer, more efficient travel across Mauritius.
With an investment of approximately Rs 1.5 billion, the project extends over 9.5 kilometres, linking La Marie Road (B102) through Henrietta and Holyrood, and ending at Pierrefonds. The new corridor establishes a crucial connection between the Palma Road (B2) and the Phoenix–Beaux Songes Road (B130), thereby facilitating smoother traffic flow and improving accessibility to the regions of Palma, Bassin, and Solferino.
It is also to be added that the Flic en Flac bypass which forms part of the link from La Vigie to Flic en Flac is under construction and is expected to be completed by end of Year 2025.
Minister’s Remarks
“The completion of this new phase marks another significant milestone in our national infrastructure development. It will not only enhance regional mobility but also contribute to economic and social connectivity across the island.” — Mr Govindranath Gunness
