A site visit was carried out by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr G. Gunness, to assess the physical progress of works on the flyover on Motorway M1 at La Vigie.
The cost of the flyover project is Rs 270 million and the project was awarded to General Construction Co. Ltd in December 2023.
Works on site started in January 2024 and is expected to be completed by mid of April 2025.
The Minister Gunness was satisfied with regard to the progress of works. The flyover will connect with the New La Vigie-La Brasserie-Beaux Songes Link Road and this will improve the traffic fluidity towards the West and vice versa and contribute to alleviate traffic congestion.
The flyover is completed at 85% completion. After the completion of the project, no detour will be required for traffic coming from the West through La Vigie roundabout to go towards the south from the North through Midland’s flyover towards the West.
In order to improve connectivity across the island, the Minister stated that the coming Dubreuil-Melrose link road project will in the future connect to the flyover at La Vigie to provide an East-west connector. He further added that the East West connector can be extended also to St Julien D’Hotman through Bel Etang village.
