Phase 2 of La Vigie-La Brasserie-Beaux Songes Link Road to be operational in August

The second phase of La Vigie-La Brasserie-Beaux Songes Link Road is expected to be operational in August 2025, said the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness yesterday during a site visit.

The Minister, accompanied by several Ministers and Members of the National Assembly and technical staff, visited the new Henrietta roundabout, the Holyrood bridge in Vacoas, the Pierrefonds roundabout, and the Flic-en-Flac bypass. The aimwas to assess the progress of ongoing works at the La Vigie-La Brasserie-Beaux Songes Link Road Phase II project.

At Henrietta, the Minister was attentive to concerns raised by local residents about the
construction works. He assured themthat the Ministry would take swift actions to address the issues, thereby ensuring a peaceful and harmonious environment for all.

Mr Gunness further highlighted the challenges related to land acquisition at Holyrood bridge.
After discussions with landowners, agreements were reached allowing the necessary land to be used for the project, he said.

Regarding the Pierrefonds roundabout, the Minster noted that works were delayed due to the bridge design. Following consultations with the Road Development Authority and the Land Drainage Authority, the proposal submitted by the former was chosen which resulted in a cost-saving of Rs 60 million, he added.

Minister Gunness further indicated that Phase II of the road project will be extended to the Flic-en-Flac cemetery, hence improving accessibility to the regions of Palma, Bassin, Solferino, and Flic-en-Flac.

He also discussed the possibility of establishing a connection between Tamarin and Flic-en-Flac in the future, by using an existing road owned by Medine Group.
