A site visit was carried out on 27 November 2024, at the newly constructed Roundabout at Wooton, by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness who was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Richard Duval and the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Michaël Sik Yuen.
In a statement, the Minister of National Infrastructure, underlined that he had meetings with relevant stakeholders to check the status of the Wooton roundabout project and ensured that all the required Road Safety Audits have been carried out.
The roundabout, he indicated, will help to alleviate traffic congestion and improve access and traffic flow for the residents of the surrounding regions.
The roundabout was opened to traffic on the same day to provide improved traffic movement for road users, particularly during the upcoming festive end-of-year period.
The Grade Separated Junction project at Wooton is part of the concept review and traffic management plan to reduce traffic congestion and travel time along the Motorway M1 and Quartier Militaire Road, allowing free flow for Northbound-Southbound traffic between Camp Fouquereaux and La Vigie, and reducing risk of bottleneck along the main road.
