Inauguration of New Link Road B70 at La Brasserie

The New Link Road B70–A23, designed to improve traffic flow at La Brasserie, was inaugurated yesterday by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, and became operational as from 10:00 hrs today.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Mr Richard Duval; the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Michaël Sik Yuen; representatives of the Road Development Authority; and other distinguished guests.

In his address, Minister Gunness stated that the link road, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 15 million and spanning about 120 metres, forms part of a broader infrastructure project. He added that the project will be extended to the regions of Robinson and Les Casernes in Curepipe, for which land acquisition procedures are currently under way and plans are being finalised.

The Minister further emphasised that the new road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the area, particularly during the upcoming Maha Shivaratree Festival.

Following the inauguration, Ministers Gunness, Duval and Sik Yuen also launched works for the construction of a drainage network at Couvent Street in Curepipe. Valued at approximately Rs 131 million, the project covers Tout Court and Elias Coowar lanes and will subsequently be extended to Camp Levieux, Wooton, Engrais Cathan, Quatre Carreaux, Gilbert Joson and Giquel.

The drainage works aim to reduce flood risks in the region and enhance the safety of residents during periods of heavy rainfall.
