The Prime Minister, Honourable Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, conducted site visits at Alma, Dagoti\u00e9re et C\u00f4te D\u2019Or, to take stock of progress as regards the construction of Verdun Bypass \u2013 Phase 1 project, which is expected to kick-start in May 2021.
The Vice-Prime Minister, Honourable Mrs. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun and the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Honourable Mr. Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, were also present.
In a statement, Prime Minister Jugnauth underlined that the project is in line with Government\u2019s objective to transform and modernise the country\u2019s infrastructure. The project, he said, will help alleviate traffic congestion in the area, improve road connectivity and enhance the travel experience of commuters as well as ensure their safety.
Verdun Bypass Project<\/strong>
The project to the tune of some Rs 336 million will start from Moka \u2013 Camp De Masque Road \u2013 A7 after Alma village and will provide an alternative route up to Terre Rouge \u2013 Verdun – Trianon Link Road, M3 without the need to drive through the village of Verdun.
In the next phase, a new link will be constructed through an interchange across M3 to link St Pierre Bypass and A7 Road. The Verdun Bypass will be connected to M3 through access ramps and is likely to bring a traffic shift of around 60% from M3\/A7. The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
The project also comprises: construction of approximately 3.5km long new single carriageway with 1.5m shoulders on both sides; construction of a bridge and a roundabout; junction improvement on A7\/M3; construction of access ramps to Motorway M3; upgrading of part of existing Verdun Road, B50; relocation of existing services, and provision of miscellaneous road furniture such as guardrails, traffic signs, cat\u2019s eyes, handrails, and street lighting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
