The newly reconstructed Beau Champs Bridge, along the B9 Black River–Savanne Coast Road in Bel Ombre, was inaugurated on Friday 23 October 2026 by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness. In his address, Minister Gunness highlighted the importance of maintaining continuity in infrastructure development despite changes in Government. He stressed the need to ensure that projects are implemented efficiently, completed within approved budgets and delivered despite challenges encountered during construction. The former narrow bridge, located on a sharp bend, required traffic lights to regulate two-way traffic, causing delays and raising road safety concerns.

Referring to the Beau Champs Bridge project, he recalled that construction began in March 2025 and encountered several challenges, including traffic diversions and technical complexities. He expressed satisfaction with the project’s completion, noting that the new bridge has a design service life of 100 years.

The Minister also highlighted the dedicated cycle track incorporated into the project as part of a long-term vision for infrastructure development. He urged motorists to exercise caution and observe speed limits at all times.

Undertaken by the Road Development Authority at a cost of approximately Rs 186.9 million, the project involved the construction of a new 23-metre reinforced concrete bridge, the realignment of around 660 metres of the B9 road, drainage works and other associated road improvements.
